Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Harlow Town II on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 6 wickets
Match report
A fine win for the ASPS against a very over confident Harlow Town, who thought they would rock up, stick 300 on us and then roll us over for 100(their words, not mine!!). ASPS won the toss and Bear decided to stick Harlow in. Statto's first over went for 2 boundaries and things didn't look good. However, Bear's tactic of opening with Quagmire, and setting the right field, paid dividends as he settled into a good line and length. Statto soon castled Pettengell with a beauty, and Albon bowled the cocky Elston. Statto soon had Smith snaffled at square leg and HT were 3 down for not many. Quagmire then come into his own by taking 2 wickets in 2 balls, including Coleman first ball, who had smashed 99 in the corresponding fixture earlier in the year. Seecharan didn't last long as he obviously hadn't been watching the low bounce and missed an expansive pull, and HT were 47-6. Lall and Teale then took the positive approach and Zorbo came in for a little stick, before Bear bowled Lall round his legs. Teale was bowled by Zorbo, and this bought the Saffer Pistorius to the crease. Skipper Alderson hit a couple of boundaries before Pistorius run himself our going for a suicidal second run. Bear cleaned Farmer up 2nd ball, and Harlow had been bundled out for 97. After a fine Bear tea, Zorbo and the skipper opened up against a very vocal HT side, who seemed to think the wicket had some demons in it, whereas it held few problems for ASP as the openers put on 42 in 9 overs, before Bear top edged a sweep to square leg for 18. Zorbo and Groomy played the spinner Pistorius well, who seemed to think we should have taking him on, when there was really no need chasing 97!! ASP had a little wobble when Zorbo and Clumpton were didmissed in the same over, and then Groomy was adjudged LBW, to leave us 68-4, but the young lions Baxter and Cassels kept their heads and played some fine shots, with Baxter finishing it by clubbing the unfortunate Coleman for consecutive boundaries. A thouroughly well deserved victory, and a bit of a shame when not one of the opposition had the decency to come for a beer afterwards, a poor show all round!!
