Match report ASP started their league campaign with a narrow defeat to Thaxted. Having been inserted ASP started briskly with Strange and Thompson putting on 57 for the first wicket before they both fell on the same score. Groom and Edwards consolidated before Groom in particular played some outstanding shots. These two put on over a hundred before Groom was caught for 51. Edwards went on to his first league 50 before holing out for 64, and some useful late order runs from Baxter pushed ASP upto 221-5. Thaxted started positively before Thompson had Gent plumb LBW. Ratcliff came in and smashed the bowling to all parts before playing one shot too many and being bowled for 64. At the other end Ben Sapsford picked up 3 quick wickets and ASP were in the hunt. Leach and Smith threw the bat to good effect and Thaxted were cruising, before the introduction of Baxter caused a wobble, dismissing both batsmen in the same over. Taylor and Murphy played sensibly, pushing the ones and twos, and a couple of poor overs from ASP seemed to hand the match to Thaxted. However, Murphy's dismissal and some fine fielding ensured the game went into the last over, as Taylor just sneaked home with a suicidal single. All in all, a great game played in good spirit.
