Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v Hatley & Arrington on Sun 02 Aug 2009 at 2pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Another sunny Sunday at HQ and another decent performance from the ASPs Sunday boys. Just a shame we couldn’t continue the run of victories we had been on. Couple of changes from the successful Presidents day run chase, although Potter retained his place as a late call up owing to Hayleys inopportune timing of giving birth meaning Clumpers missed out (congratulations to you both)

On winning the toss and choosing to field, early wickets were requested, and Paul Ward obliged in his first over with Knibbs caught at mid-off by Albon taking him to 10 catches for the season. With Tank bowling tidily in his new Sunday role steaming down the hill a lid was put on the usual aggressive style of H&As batting. Gradually they got into their stride although wickets did fall at regular rate, Clark taking a caught and bowled chance on his way to 1-66, Tank (1-28) picking up a clean bowled with one that moved and Albon taking the first of his three (3-24) caught well at point by Bert. A few lusty blows from the H&A lower order took them beyond 200 which gave them a very defendable total.

After an excellent tea kindly provided by the Surrey clan, ASPs set about their task of running down the imposing 218 target. Sadly the early wickets of Bert (5) and Alex (3) left Bear and Si Lindsay with a bit of a rescue job on. As ever Bear looked comfortable and when Si went, Potter joined him in the partnership that was probably to decide the result. Serene progress took ASPs past 100, then up towards 150 but when Potter fell just short of fifty (46) and Bear for 54 to almost identical balls that kept low, the writing was on the wall. Some good late hitting from Tank including a six made sure ASPs saw out the overs but sadly fell short of the target. An interesting note for stattos out there was that all seven ASPs dismissals were bowled!!!!!
