Great Chishill v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 25 Jul 2020 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn Abandoned due to rain at teas

Match report Asps traveled to Great Chishill for their 2nd friendly of the season. Rain was always on the cards and sadly after a tough fought first innings which saw GC out on a high scoring 232, the match was inevitably abandoned.

Devonshire and Surrey brought the pace to open up for the asps. A gloomy day saw both bowlers struggle to find their lengths on a good batting wicket. The GC opener hit two beautiful cover drives before Devonshire bowled a brilliant slower ball to take his middle stump. Surrey found the edges but with no luck & number 3 found his range from the start.. He punished anything short to the mid wicket boundary for 6. Worby and R. Fitzgerald were next init the firing line.. both bowled well but anything off target got brutally punished by two good batsmen. Also Running quick singles and pushing the Asps field about well. Asps stuck at it and after both batsmen raced to 50’s, Fitzgerald struck LBW on the last ball of his spell, removing the GC number 3 for a hard hitting 73. Worby got the remaining opener just after his 50 , when Morrissey took a good catch at cover. Fitzgerald bowled well and was unfortunate to end up with 1-46 & Worby a similar story for his 1-53. Babbage bowling in his second game for the club, almost had a repeat of his debut with a huge appeal first ball, when he wrapped the pads of the GC batter. Close, but not out. Babbage stuck at it well and bowled good a good length. Baxter replaced Worby with 10 overs to go. The GC batsmen were putting their foot down once again and Baxter was fortunate to receive a loopy caught & bowled in his 2nd over. He then dropped one off his bowling two balls later when it was hit low back at him. Babbage continued finding a good length and ended with 0/23 off his 4, another good return. Albon and Baxter were to now finish off the innings. Albon was unlucky when the Batsmen swiped 3 in the air that landed in gaps in his first over, his 6th ball saw the hard hitting GC batsmen set off for a quick single which was never on to Worby at point, who returned an easy throw to Curtis for a run out after he was sent back by his partner . Albons second over saw him flight one up to the GC batsmen who saw it spin through the gate and watch it crash into middle stump. Baxter got some joy in his next few overs when R. Fitz took a nice catch at mid on. Baxter then took a good catch off his bowling when one was drilled back at him. The next ball saw the tailender play all round a straight one for Baxter’s 3rd. Baxter on a hat trick saw the number 11 slap a straight one through covers and set off for two, luckily Morrissey struck with a direct hit to give Asps a nice little team hat trick to end the GC innings.

Sadly before an Asps player could even get a pad on, the rain hurled down and the match was abandoned.

Well done to Bill on his 4th catch of the season, Berts great slower ball & Worby and Fitzgerald for bowling well at some big hitting batsmen.

Apologies from Baxter who could of had 3 jugs if he took the dropped Ct & bowled. Also not getting a hattrick or 5 for... a serious jug avoidment.

Asps play their first home game of the season next week at the ACG as league cricket returns.
