Audley End & Littlebury v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 18 Jul 2020 at 12.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost By 20 Runs

Match report After a strange 2020, ASPCC played their first game of the season at the picturesque ground at Audley End.

New rules meant it was 30 overs per side & plenty of sanitising..

Aspenden fielded first and started well with L. Fitzgerald & Surrey bowling the cobwebs away! Surrey started particularly well and was rewarded in his second over when the Audley opener chopped on early. Fitzgerald was now also finding his rhythm and bowling tightly. Surrey was then in the book again the next over when he swung a beauty into the stumps to remove the number 3 bat. With Fitzgerald and Surrey setting a good platform by only going for 28 in the first 8 overs, it was down to Worby & Albon to follow up. Worby replaced Fitzgerald & picked up an early wicket when Morrisey held on to good catch at cover to remove the remaining opener. Soon after Morrisey snared his second good catch off a well bowled Albon delivery. Worby finished strong with 1-10 off his 4. Babbage has a dream debut when he was bought into the attack and took a wicket with his first ball for the club, a pitched delivery that was chipped to Albon at mid off. Albon ended well with 1-31 off his 6. Baxter replaced Albon but before that we had the champagne moment of the day! Audleys number 7 drilling one to cover and Morrisey diving top right bins to pluck a beauty and give Babbage his 2nd. Things got better when Baxter had number 6 trapped plumb in front with his first ball. Babbage continued to bowl well for a top spell of 5-2-20-2. Curtis held on well to a slight snick off Baxter and Surrey finished the overs off down the hill and picked up his second at the death with another good grab from Albon. Surrey 6-1-17-3 a brilliant return. Baxter ended up with 2-20 off his 5. A special effort in the field from the Asps team.

Clifton & McNamara we’re first up for the Asps. It started well, with both players cutting well and putting on 32 in the first 9 overs. The solid start was broken when McNamara, who had batted well for his 13, was bowled by the quick Audley first change bowler. He was to be a thorn in the Asps middle order... Fitzgerald joined Clifton and both men drilled one each through cover for 4,s. Clifton also playing a quality pull shot for 4. Fitzgerald hit one more 4 before being bowled for 8. Green was also toppled by the Audley quick not long after he was in. Worby looked good and built a small partnership with Clifton. ASPS were back on track at 71-3 until Worby was bowled for a good looking 9. Morrisey joined Clifton but not for long as Clifton also fell to him when he played on for a top scoring 35. Baxter was next but Morrisey fell moments later for 1, from a good full inswinger. Baxter was also out for just 1 when he hauled out trying to hit a boundary. The collapse continued when Babbage fell for a duck. Curtis & Albon were still hopeful but the wickets keep tumbling when Albon got a low one and was bowled for 5. Surrey played arguably the shot of the day when he smashed a front foot drive back past the bowler for 4. Sadly it was Curtis left holding his bat for 8* when Surrey was bowled for 5. ASPCC 97. All out.

Beautiful ground, great day, just a shame about the result...

Congrats to Billy Morrisey for his great 3 catches & Joe Babbage for his 2 wickets on debut.
