Match report What would have been a close finish was ruined by a torrential downpour at Aythorpe Roding on Saturday. Winning the toss, Jonathan Moon inserted Aythorpe on what looked like a decent pitch and got a breakthrough when Reynolds cut a Potter longhop straight to point. This bought Culleton in and he proceeded to take the attack to the bowlers with Baker playing second fiddle at the other end. Potter soon dismissed Baker, but this only bought Anderson who quickly followed Culleton to 50. ASP made the breakthrough when Culleton was stumped off the bowling of Strange, but Darby came in and hit some lusty blows with Aythorpe taking 37 off 2 overs at one point. ASP clawed their way back into the game with Albon and Hampton, with Albon dismissing Darby for 52 and Hampton claiming the wicket of Anderson for 54, and with Aythorpe well placed at 233-5 with 7 overs left ASP were looking down the barrell. Aythorpe, however, only managed 14 runs off the last 7 overs to finish on 247-8. In reply ASP got off to a flyer and had reached 66 in the tenth over before Thompson was dismissed for 18. Simon Groom came in and smote a couple of big sixes before falling caught behind. Soon after this Strange was caught for 43 in the middle of a tight spell of bowling from Rosewell and Darby and ASP were struggling at 102-3, but John Yates(20*) and Mark Potter(24*) were batting well before the rains came and put an end to a interesting game of cricket as ASP needed 98 more runs off 15.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
