Aspenden vs Presidents XI

A great day had by all at the ACG as Gordon's presidents XI rocked up for a good close game. Presidents were to bat first and G. Devonshire opened up with Albon. L. Clifton started down the hill and bowled with good pace and accuracy, beating both batsmen's edges. I. Curtis bowled up the hill and caused problems in his first couple of overs. A solid looking opening partnership for the Presidents XI was steady and going well. Baxter introduced himself and young B. Clifton down the hill. Clifton was the pick of the Asps bowlers. Consistent line and length from the young man went without reward. Baxter caused no problems for the openers and Jabar came on up the hill after drinks. Clifton bowled a fantastic 5 overs for 12 before the returning Khan replaced him. Albon took the game to Khan. Smashing him for 4,4 and then a 6 over long on to bring up his 50. A great knock from Albon. Jabar turned one big and Curtis done the rest with the stumping of El Presidente for a very well made 43, and a brilliant opening partnership of 99. Thorogood joined Albon and both men went big. Houghton replaced Khan and took the brunt of the big hitting. A 50 partnership was bought up in not time. Grace replaced Jabar and picked up the wicket of Thorogood for a quick fire 37. Jabar taking an absolutely stunning diving catch at long on. R. Devonshire was next up and he saw Albon stumped off Strange for a very well made 62. The final few overs of the innings saw Devonshire and Sapsford score a quick fire 25* and 18 respectively, both men hitting 6's. Presidents XI setting a very competitive total of 213.

The soon to be Mrs Devonshire and her soon to be sister in law Kimberley put on a brilliant tea. Khan was taken ill (migraine.. not teas!) and had to go, leaving Asps with 9... until a sight for sore eyes, 'the white Chris Gayle' Mark Pankhurst, came strolling down the green, lager in hand and was now Asps replacement for Khan! A new pairing of Baxter & N. Curtis opened the batting for Aspenden. S. Pankhurst was handed the new ball along with Joyce Jnr and both men bowled accurately. Baxter got off the mark with a 4 and Curtis got himself in before hitting 5 fours in 2 overs. Curtis found runs with regularity and Baxter was hitting the singles. Pankhurst bowled 5 good over before being replaced by Little. Joyce bowled well, in a spell which saw - Joyce bowl, Baxter hit it, R. Devonshire field many many times... Devonshire then replaced Joyce and bowled well. Little was quality the other end, putting it on the spot every ball. He soon accounted for Curtis when Curtis was bowled through the gate for a quick fire 33. Clifton was in at 3 and looked solid against the threatening Little. Baxter hit two 4's down the ground and Clifton joined in with a club through midwicket for 4. Baxter also looking good clipped the singles and hit the bad balls for 4. Devonshire was replaced by Albon who found some turn early on. Little bowled 7 overs for 14 including 2 maidens and 1 wicket. The spell of the day. Sapsford came on down the hill and Baxter got to a conservative 50. He didn't last much longer when top edging to Kennedy at slip for 51 off Sapsford. M. Pankhurst was next in and the white Chris Gayle went big... Sapsford tossing it up and Pankhurst steamed down the wicket to hit him for 3 big consecutive 6's! Quality from the lefty. Clifton was going well at the other end and struck three 4's in a row off Albon. Pankhurst was looking at dishing out the same punishment to Albon as he had Sapsford but chipped one up to cover and was gone for 20 off 7 balls. I. Curtis was next, he hit two cracking fours through cover before becoming Sapsfords 2nd victim, a carbon copy wicket of Baxters wicket. Grace joined Clifton and Grace hit the ball straight out of the middle from the get go. Grace struck four nice 4's on his way to 21 before Sapsford got his 3rd. Ben joined Luke and both Cliftons were in the middle. Sadly Ben was bowled third ball by Albon. Houghton came in and scored 2*. Clifton hit the winning runs off Kennedys first ball which also bought up another 50 for Clifton.

Asps cross the line with 3 overs to go and 4 wickets in hand. A top afternoon at the green, followed by some drinks at the pub.

Special mention to Albon, Baxter and Clifton for all scoring 50's and Little's spell of 1-14 off 7. Top bowling from Ben Clifton aswell.
