Match report On a changeable weather day ASP welcomed Theydon Bois to the ACG. With the pitch looking like a belter, Theydon were inserted, and immediately lost a wicket in the first over, with Strange plucking a one handed catch at slip off Fitzgerald. The second over was slightly different as Devonshire went for 17 off his over, as Ahmed and Bullivant took toll of some aerosol bowling. However Devonshire picked up the wicket of Ahmed when he slapped a long hop straight to the safe hands of Worby at cow corner. Bullivant and Pienaar kept the scoring ticking over before Pienaar fell to a stunning one handed slip catch by Strange again off the bowling of Humphrey, and Bullivant top edged a sweep off Sapsford to be caught at deep square by Humphrey. The trio of ASP spinners then applied the brakes, taking wickets at regular intervals, and it was only a stand of 35 for the last wicket that got Theydon to 155 all out with the spinners sharing 8 wickets. Under darkening skies and after the tea of the decade, Clifton and Jabar took guard and got off to a good start with Clifton being particularly severe on Almeida. The opening partnership reached 38 before Clifton was LBW to Bullivant for 18. Jabar was looking good, pulling Bullivant for 6, but he unluckily got the only shooter of the day and was trapped LBW for 37, and with Humphrey also going LBW, ASP were in a spot of bother at 73-3. Strange was promoted up the order to add some solidity to the middle order, and he and Moor played circumspectly for a while before Moor unleashed some venomous drives on his way to 34. Strange saw off Bullivant but then lost concentration and was bowled sweeping for 11, and Moor soon followed playing the same shot, and ASP were 130-5. There was to be no repeat of the nail biting finish of last week though as Groom and Devonshire saw us home with 10 overs to spare. A fantastic all round performance with some stunning catches from Strange and Jabar, and some solid batting from everyone.
