Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v Codicote on Sun 01 May 2016 at 2.00pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won By 8 Wickets

Match report Asps welcomed Codicote to the ACG on a nice early summers day. Stand in skipper for the day Baxter and Codicotes skipper agreed Codicote to bat first which was welcome from both parties. Ian Curtis took the new ball and was on a hat trick the first ball of the match after nabbing 2 in the last 2 balls last week. He started well as did the returning Ward. Ward struck first when the opener sliced one to Maz at point where a good catch was taken, after a bit of juggling! Curtis then struck to have number 3 out for 0. With both opening bowlers going well and Curtis picking up another to give him 2 for in his first spell of 6 overs. Ward also bowled a very tight 6 picking up 1 wicket. Rushworth came on to replace Curtis and the young talent of Albie Gifford replaced Wardy down the hill. Rushworth picked one up fairly early on in his spell, with I. Curtis taking a skier at mid on. Gifford was bowling very straight and full, giving the batsmen nothing to work with. Rushworth had looked solid until the new number 6 bat came in a looked solid himself. Blocking everything straight and tucking into anything slightly wide. Gifford was replaced with Grace and Rushworth with Khan. Grace started with a big four then reigned it in from there. Khan beat the outside edge on many occasions but spun it too much for any batsmen to get a nick. Grace bowled 3 overs and was replaced by the best of the Clifton bowlers in Ben ;). He bowled 3 top overs with just 1 ball going the distance and most the rest on the spot. Khan finished off and picked up 2 in his final over after the opener and number 6 both reached well deserved 50’s. Both batsmen were hitting it to all parts until Khan picked up those two and it was left for Curtis to clean up the last batsmen by bowling him everywhere. Codicote posting a very competitive total of 182.

Another good tea from Emma was followed by one of the more interesting innings seen down the ACG, by stand in opener Grace. After playing and missing, being dropped and edging his way to 24, all in 4's, Grace and Clifton had put on 50 in the first 8 overs, with a lot of extras helping the cause. Clifton was finding the gap beautifully, and playing some great flicks off the leg to the vacant fine leg for 4’s. Grace was now feeling full of confidence and going after all the bowlers, who were bowling well and unlucky not to pick up a wicket. With Clifton knocking the singles and Grace going for boundaries, the partnership was up to 100 off 20 over. Grace continued the onslaught, from slicing 4’s over the keepers head to smashing it back over the bowlers head. He soon found himself on his maiden 50 for the ASPS. Grace hitting 3 more 4’s before getting bowled for 70, and an opening partnership of 158. Very well played. Debutant Tom Parker was in next and found himself facing the pacey opening bowler first up, which he dealt with well. Clifton was on 62 when he retired not out, with ASPS needing 13 off the last 5 overs. Gifford joined Parker and looked good from his first ball. He soon clipped one away down legside for a very well hit four. Parker was bowled for 4 and Baxter Joined Gifford and between them knocked off the remaining few runs in the last over to give ASPS a very good win and a brilliant effort chasing.

Well done to Jamie Grace on his first 50 and 158 partnership with Luke Clifton. Also Ian Curtis & Albie Gifford who bowled very well.
