Takeley I v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 10 wickets
Match report
On a glorious day in Takeley, ASP won the toss and inserted Takeley on what looked like a flat belter. Thake and Roach eased into their task well with a few crisp shots on a lightning fast outfield. They took the score to 45 before Roach crashed a long hop straight to Jabar at point. Osbourne was the new bat and he and Thake took the score along to 94 before a knee high full toss from King was deposited into the waiting hands of Jabar again at deep square leg. Thake was batting well at this point and Miles stayed with him and hit Albon for 2 sixes in one over before perishing trying for a third, well taken by Devonshire at long on. At this stage Takeley were 162-3 with 13 overs to go, looking well set for 250+, but when Strange was bought into the attack things changed, he had Brown stumped, then removed the dangerous Thake for 79. He then proceeded to dry up the runs from one end, and Fitzgerald steamed in from the other to dismiss Gunn and Sammons. Strange had Connolly bowled, then bowled Fitten, and then had last man Way stumped by Baxter to leave Takeley on 193 all out, Strange finishing with 5-24. The ASPS openers, buoyed by their recovery in the field started purposefully with Jabar feeling his way back into form and Clifton blunting the new ball attack. Jabar was dropped by Way on 25, and Takeley were left to rue that drop, as he played one of the best innings seen in a long time, striking some majestic sixes back over the bowlers heads, and punishing anything short. With Clifton providing staunch support, Jabar flourished and soon reached 50 with a huge six. This opened the floodgates as he cut, pulled and drove his way to a hundred, and then pushed on to a career best 144* including 15 x 4's and 7 x 6's, with Clifton remaining 36* the other end. A resounding win for ASP with Jabar delivering in a massive way....
