Willingale v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 30 May 2015 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 4 Wickets
Match report
On a fine dry afternoon ASP embarked on the long journey to Willingale. Captain Chaos won the toss and decided to have a bowl. Zorbo and Lew both settled in to a testing line and length with Lew picking up the opener and number 3, both snaffled by the returning Bumphrey at second slip. Zorbo deservedly had the other opener caught behind, as Willingale toiled in the face of some incisive bowling. Both bowlers bowled straight through and were rewarded with good figures. Bumphrey came on and immediately started causing problems with some seam and swing movement, picking up a couple of wickets. Maz was a little off the pace and was replaced by the Bear, who carrying on his good start to the season, bowled 9 overs at the death and picked up 3-21, Willingale finishing on a below par 128-8. After a sumptuous tea, Clifton and Akbar ticked over nicely, with Akbar crunching a big 6 over extra cover off Reed. Clifton cruelly played on for 19, and after breaking his bat, Akbar skied one up to deepish mid off, which sparked manic celebrations from Willingale as if they had won the game, but we are made of sterner stuff these days, and Zorbo battled through a testing spell from Airey, whilst losing Kallum and Lew, to leave us 70-4, and Willingale with their tails and voices up. Bert and Zorbo settled back in against the change bowling and knocked the 1's and 2's about with the occasional boundary thrown in, before Bert got the only ball that turned from their spinner, and was bowled. Groomy came in and immediately looked at ease, taking ones and twos and rotating the strike nicely. Zorbo couldn't quite finish the job off falling with 4 required, leaving Groom to strike the winning runs and the Red Inker with another not out! A victory that we worked hard for in both departments, and it goes to show teams that we are a lot more than a one man team............a lot more.......
