Match report An advertisement for cricket took place on Saturday at the village green as Top of the table Asps welcomed fellow high flyers Molehill Green.

Asps were to bat first on a surprisingly hot & sunny afternoon. Jabar & Clifton were to open the Asps innings & they did strongly. Jabar was timing the ball beautifully but the MG fielders were stopping everything. As solid as Clifton and Jabar looked the bowling was tight the bowlers rarely strayed off their line & length's. Clifton hit a couple of nice looking boundaries through point and midwicket. Jabar carried on his fantastic batting from the season, punching and driving through cover to bring up the 50 partnership. As always the running between the wickets was very quick and it was not long before Jabar was raising his bat for another well made 50. Clifton was staying steady at the other end, picking up singles and keeping Jabar on strike. The pair carried on to bring up the 100 partnership after 30 overs. Jabar was closing in on 100 when Clifton was caught for a good 37. Humphreys was next in and after waiting 30+ overs with his pads on was out first ball, caught by cover from one that popped. Leaver joined Jabar and was at the other end when Jabar hit some beautiful shots to the boundary to bring up a well deserved and classy 100. Leaver took the singles and Jabar continued until he was out for an excellent 111 & brought up his 1000th run for the club & 4th League hundred at a amazing average of 73.71. Big hitting Devonshire was in next to hit some quick runs with 5 overs left. After dispatching his first ball for 4, Devonshire looked in good nick. Leaver hit a 4 of his own but was out for 8. Fitzgerald was in next. He & Devonshire put on a quick fire 25 getting Asps upto 200+. Fitzgerald was first to go caught for 8 then Devonshire bowled for a quick 17. Groom & Edwards ended up 0* & 1* to leave Asps in a good position of 209-6.

After a brilliant tea consisting of hot dogs from Suzie, Asps took to the green not knowing what to expect from MG's batting. Edwards & Fitzgerald opened the bowling and started well. Fitzgerald bowling with some real pace, and Edwards with control. The MG openers were looking good before Fitzgearld struck, then Edwards soon after. Leaver & Strange replaced the two opening bowlers after a couple of good spells. Both batsmen were settled and took a like to Leaver's length and pulling him over midwicket for a 6 and a couple of fours. Strange faired a bit better after MG still in opener hit him straight over the top early in his spell. Leaver was replaced by Jabar hoping to get the breakthrough which unfortuneatly did not come. MG had moved to 160-2 after 35 overs and were looking big favourites. Albon was unlucky to go for 33 off his 4overs but was the man to get the breakthrough. Fitzgerald and Edwards came on to cause havoc among the MG batsmen who found themselves 9 wickets down after Edwards picked up another giving him 2 for the day and Fitzgerald got 2 in an over & a run out. Giving him 3 wickets for his efforts. The last over was upon us and with Asps needing 1 wicket to win & MG 7 runs to win. After hitting the 2nd ball of the over for 4 then 2 off the fourth ball it came down to the last ball of the match which MG number 10 hammered back down the ground for a boundary to win the game.

A brilliant all round display of cricket from both teams in every department. Enjoyed with a few beers with the oppo after a great game.
