North Enfield v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI on Sun 21 Apr 2013 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 9 wickets
Match report
On a pleasant Sunday in North Enfield, 11 good men and true took to the field of battle for the first time this season. A strong opening burst from Fred West and the Carlsberg Express meant that NE were scoring at less than 2 an over, but this was soon rectified as Sorry and Waspy had their own Great British Bake Off and produced some delicious pies for the batsmen to feast upon. Quagmire bought himself on and the lefty tucked into a few of his offerings as well, whilst the other batsman was having his only two shots bowled at regularly to reach his fifty, before MVG produced a perfect throw to run him out. Quagmire soon had the lefty stumped whilst Bear picked up a couple of ferrets at the end. Special mention must be made of John's left knee, which saved 8 runs on the day, well done! After an interesting tea, Bert and Derek started our innings, with Derek complaining that he coukd barely walk, let alone run, and this was proven whenever Bert hit the ball, but he seemed to find his mojo when he was on strike. Bert nearly took their skippers foot off with a straight drive, and as their skipper hobbled in for his next delivery, you just knew that Bert would take pity on him and pat it back, which he did, right into the bush surrounding the ground. Bert soon perished to a half tracker, and this bought Fred West to the crease, and he soon got tucked in to some friendly bowling, with one guy bowling so slowly, he had time to look around the field whilst the ball was on its way down before plonking it into the fence. Derek curbed his natural agrressive game as he and Fred pushed on to victory, with Fred reaching his 50 first, before Derek clinched the game with a boundary to bring up his own half century. The after match celebrations were made even more enjoyable as Tank had to get the first round in, and Quagmire stiched him up for a Desperado. Poor old Tanks shower gel leaked as well, and he got Bifkin'd in the showers, but a great start to the season anyway.
