Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v Sheering on Sun 17 Jun 2012 at 2pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Asps welcomed Sheering to the green on Sunday for their second home game of the weekend. Sheering elected to bat first, and up came Ward and Nash to open the Asps bowling attack. Ward carried on his good form from tour, bowling a tight line, cramping up the batsmen. Nash was looking threatening up the hill and after a couple of plays and misses, he got a ball to keep its line and bowl the batsmen straight through the gate. Ward was then rewarded with a wicket of his own, when the only real bad ball he bowled was miss timed and Ct. Two new batsmen at the crease, it was time for Albon to replace Nash (5-2-5-1), and keep the momentum going. Surrey replaced Ward down the hill and also carried on his good form. With Sheering batsmen now playing some big shots, it wasn't long before one of the batsmen reached his 50. With the other batsmen not far of his 50, Surrey struck and Sheering had to look at rebuilding a partnership. After Baxter went down a rabbit hole and couldn't continue to play, Sheering kindly gave Asps a fielder, kind of... With Albon unsuccessful up the hill, he called for young Ian Curtis to come and have a bowl. Surrey was bowling well and bagged himself another wicket. Unfortunately it wasn't the batsmen set on 70 odd. Surrey finished his spell 8-1-21-2, another fantastic spell that included his first wicket maiden, well done. With batsmen looking to hit big Jaimie replaced Surrey and was rewarded immediately with a wicket. Curtis at the other end was bowling well but the set batsmen was finding the gaps and making it look all to easy. Albon took over from Curtis, who bowled a decent 7-0-54-0 at a time where batsmen are trying to hit everything. Jaimie was also bowling well, hitting the right spots and bowled a good 5-0-45-3 to be leading wicket taker of the day. Sheering's number 3 bought up his 100 in the last over against Albon, the very next ball he hauled out to long off where Devonshire held it with ease, giving Albon 1-44 off his 7.4 overs. Ending the innings on 200. A good performance in the field, special mention to Clifton for taking 3 good catches in the outfield.

After tea, R. Devonshire and Clifton, Sunday’s opening pair were out looking in good touch. Devonshire was making the most of the bad balls (and bad fielding) to start scoring quickly. Clifton played him self in, playing some lovely looking shots before he was bowled when Sheering decided to bring on their Stortford 1st's player, for a good 21. Devonshire had now been dropped twice, and then saw new partner M. Nash bowled by the ringer aswell for 0. Grace joined Devonshire and blocked out his bowling comfortably. Devonshire decided attack was the best form of defence against the Stortford bowler, launching him into the trees for two big sixes in one over. Grace decided he was nothing special either, when he absolutely drilled a ball over cow for a huge six. Unfortunately he got his revenge, getting Grace LBW in the same over for 8. N. Curtis was next in to join Devonshire who went to chancy 50, his second of the season, well played. With Curtis looking impressive, he was understandably annoyed when he chopped a ball back onto his stumps that stayed low for 8. Devonshire was still riding his luck at the other end when he was dropped twice more. Young I. Curtis came to the middle replacing his Dad and hoping to beat his score on father’s day. Devonshire planted his front foot forward and dispatched the ringer back over his head three more times, before he was eventually Ct for 69. Albon walked to the middle with a nosebleed because he was batting so high up the order, and was determined to play out the overs. I. Curtis had different ideas, until he was bowled for a impressive club high score of 22, which included 5 boundary fours. Ward and Albon were doing a good job, not giving their wicket away, and when a couple of boundaries were hit Asps were in with a chance when they need 35 off the last 3. Ward was triggered LBW trying to work the ball down to leg. The injured Baxter came in next to try hit some sixes but just couldn't find the boundaries. Albon ended 10* and Baxter 5*. Well done Ian Curtis for a new high score.
