Thaxted v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 11 Aug 2012 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 45 runs
Match report
An Interesting day in Thaxted saw ASPCC destroy a bowling attack and still almost lose the game. ASPS lost the toss and surprisingly 9man Thaxted choose to field. Skipper Clifton and Groom opened the batting for Aspenden. Clifton was getting himself in. Whilst Groom dispatched a few balls to get going. Groom looked solid before he was Ct at midwicket for 23. Edwards strolled to the middle in great form, and a big partnership was to come. Clifton struggled to hit all the bad balls away to the boundary but was still scoring at a decent pace. Edwards was playing his shots, and looked in magnificent touch. A sorry looking Thaxted could only watch as the partnership passed 100, and both batsmen bringing up their fifties soon after. Clifton started to hammer everything. Unfortunately after a good knock of 66 he pushed to hard for the single and was run out. S. Nash was in at four, and punished the bowling from the start of his innings. Edwards still going nicely was looking at batting through for the ton, and still looked good. Nash was bowled for a quick 30 with some big shots in there. Debutant Luke Peters was raring to go at five, and showed it when he come running down the track and missing his first ball which only just missed the stumps. Peters never looked back and hit his second ball for a massive 6. Edwards was into the eighties now but unluckily was Ct for 85, a great knock. Devonshire was next in and the big hitting commenced. Devonshire hit a big 6 straight back over the bowlers head first ball. Peters not wanting to be out done, then hit two absolutely massive 6's. Firstly straight back over the pavillion, and the second off a beamer over midwicket and over a house. Devonshire carried on the onslaught adding a couple more boundaries before he was bowled for a valuable 20. Second debutant of the day Ben Hull came in for the last two balls of the innings and hit two fine shots for four. Peters ended up 43* and didn't manage to face a ball in the last 7 deliveries. Hull 8*. ASPS ending on a imposing total of 304.
After Tea the Thaxted run chase commenced. Edwards and Peter opened the bowling. There was instant success for Peters when when took two wickets in his first 2 overs and the ASPS were very much in control. Thaxted's number 3 was looking solid though, and started to swing through the line against Edwards and was putting everything away. Peters was bowling good lines, but still getiing hit to the small boundary. Edwards bowled 7-0-59-0, not quite his day with the ball. Peters finished 9-0-51-2. A good start for Peters with Bat and ball. Albon replaced Edwards and Hull replacing Peters. Albon got hit in his forst over but in his second picked up Thaxted's number 3 when he drilled a ball to Peters at deep square leg to take a great catch. Albon carried on and picked up another with some good bowling. Hull was bowling beautifully but was not getting the luck he deserved. When Albon picked up another the game looked done and dusted with Thaxted still needing 150 with 3 wickets left. Thaxted's lower order were not going go wondering, and swung at everything, hitting some lovely shots for four and edges for four. After they put on about 70 and one went to a fifty, thing didn't look so good for the ASPS. Hull then stepped up to get two quick wickets. Hull bowled a good 9-1-48-2 and Albon 10-0-45-3 - The most economical spell all day. Nash then finished off proceeding with 1-45 off his 5 and ASPS were victorious. A good entertaining game.
