Flamstead v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI on Sun 23 Jul 2006 at 2.00pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 6 wickets
Match report
Asps won a great match against Flamstead on a glorious sunny day. Potter won the toss and elected to field. Mark and Clark bowled the first 16 overs between them really well keeping things tight and the Flamstead batsman under pressure. Mark was rewarded with a wicket and Clark as well as the pair made early inroads into the Flamstead batting line up. Asps fielded well and some great catching from Booth (2 catches) and Ward enabled Asps to put Flamstead under pressure. Owen on his return bowled well at times and took 2 wickets along with Potter. Si Lindsay bowled really well uphill and was rewarded with a wicket too. The last 10 overs were sloppy as Flamstead raced from 117-4 off 30 to 210-7 at the end of their innings.
After a great tea Asps opened with Booth and Wallace. Wallace played a couple of nice shots before being bowled for 9 and Baxter joined Booth who both looked in good nick. Then Baxter was given out lbw for 10, Devonshire was caught for 0 and Booth bowled for 37 soon followed him back. At 76-4 that brought the captain Potter and vice captain Strange to the crease who started to play some shots to get up with the run rate.
Within a few overs Asps were flying and up above the rate required. Flamsteads fast bowler Cox continued bowling short at Potter and hit him everywhere on the body. After Potter weathered the storm he started to play his usual attacking game and hit 4 sixes as Asps closed in. Strange at the other end was playing really well finding the gaps and good running between the pair soon made the target easy to get. Strange reached his 50 after being dropped and ended up on 76 not out to cap off a great weekend for him. Potter brought up his 50 with a huge 6 and then hit the winnings runs and set a new 5th wicket partnership (135) with Strange as this young Aspenden side won well again. A fantastic team spirit is growing in this young side that never knows when they're beaten.
