Cloghams v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 22 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 12 runs
Match report
A great game of cricket was finally won bythe ASP's as they restricted Cloghams to 228-8. ASP lost the toss and were inserted, but Cloghams lost opening bowler Jones with a torn hamstring after 3 overs. Michael Strange and John Yates scored steadily before Yates played all round a straight one from Bell. Booth came in and smacked Crouchman for 3 fours in an over before needlessly holing out to mid off at the other end. This bought Strange and Simon Groom together, they started slowly, but started to increase the tempo, being particularly savage on Crouchman. Strange soon passed 50 and motored on towards a 100 whilst Groom hit a couple of big sixes before perishing for 43. Potter hit a 6 and a 4 to keep things going, but Strange started to come into his own and was playing shots all round the wicket as he finished on 124*. With good running and some timely boundaries ASP pushed themselves up to a useful 240-6. In reply Dave Bardell got Cloghams off to a flyer before Sapsford bent his back and got one to bounce on him and he played on. Dunmow and Child came together and hit a few boundaries before Matt King cleaned Child up. This bought in the prolific Crouchman who started to push the score along. Dunmow was expertly caught and bowled by Strange, and this bought Price to the crease, and these two started to accelerate. It was at this point that Miles Thompson started an exceptional spell of bowling, bowling his 10 straight for only 28 and picking up the important wicket of Crouchman. This put alot of pressure on Price, who was then brilliantly run out by King for 53. ASP thought they had it sewn up but some lusty hitting by Bell and B.Dunmow meant they needed 21 off the last 2 overs. Strange then produced a magical wicket maiden and the task proved too much for the tail to take 21 off King's last over and they finished 12 short
