Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Nazeing Common II on Sat 03 Sep 2011 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 73 runs
Match report
On what turned out to be a very nice day out on the green, ASPCC batted first against a very eager Nazeing side. Gordon & Bert opened the batting together for what will probably be the last time this season. Tight bowling from the Nazeing openers kept ASP's at a fairly slow run rate. Bert went on the counter attack and hit some very lusty blows, including a straight drive that almost went for 6. Gordon also hit a lovely straight drive before defending and playing on in a very unfortunate way. A bit of a collapse then proceeded in the ASP's batting line up. Jamwaa in at three, looked settled until he was bowled for 3. Baxter was next in, after hitting a four he also played on for 6. New recruit Ed was put in at 5, but also fell victim to being bowled. Meanwhile Bert at the other end was cleaned up by the first and what seemed to be the only decent ball that Nazeing's 1st change bowler. That bought out Groom & Clifton to the crease. Groom soaked up the middle overs as did Clifton. With 6-7 overs to go, both batsmen kicked on and pushed the run rate up nicely. Groomy hitting a lovely 56 before being caught. Clifton after hitting a huge 6 and some nicely timed boundaries, run himself out on the last ball, scoring 52. ASPCC ended on 168-7. A good total after the start the ASP's had.
After a fabulous tea, Nashy and Clifton got the bowling attack underway. Clifton bowled well and perhaps was unlucky to go for as many as he did. He eventually got the wicket he deserved. Nashy steaming in up the hill bowled some brilliant lines and ended up with superb figures of 3-9 off 6. Jamwaa & Bear took over the bowling after Nashy & Clifton. Jamwaa after getting a little bit of tap bowled the batsmen everywhere, bails flying. Bear at the other end was making the most of his opportunity to bowl on a Saturday and bowling with some lovely flight & gyle, he got his rewards by taking 3-16 off 8. Groomy then come on down the hill and we all got to see the praying mantis once again! Groomy picking up 1 wicket on what has been his only bowling spell this season. Baxter took the gloves off and finished it off taking the last wicket.
Another fine win for the ASP's.
