Aston v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI on Sun 18 Sep 2011 at 1pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 8 wickets
Match report
The ASPS last game of the season took them to Aston. On a grassy wicket and what turned out to be a fairly wet day, The Asps took to the field first. Tank & Baxter opened the bowling, Mark being very unlucky to not get a wicket and going for 35 off his 8, due to some very sloppy fielding. Baxter got the break through, bowling him off the boot onto leg stump. Surrey & Albon then come on 1st change, Albon very much like Tank was unlucky to go for as many as he did. He did pick up his reward when Tank took a good catch to get rid of there solid looking number 3. Surrey produced one of his best spells this season, and bowling their openers leg stump out the ground. Ben ended with impressive figures of 6-3-16-1. Aston's skipper scored a decent 50 with some lusty blows until he ran himself out in the last couple of overs. Jaimie bowled a nice 7 overs and picked up 1-42 & Ian Curtis also bowled an impressive 3overs for 12. Baxter and Surrey come on the end. Baxter picked up two more wickets ending with figures of 8-0-27-3. Surrey also bowling a good last over. Aston ended their innings on 177-6.
After Tea's, Bert & Luke took themselves out into the middle for the last time this season. Luke was steady & kept out the opening bowlers well. Bert at the other end had his eye on the 6's cup. Unfortunately he fell after a very entertaining 22 with some lovely shots in there, a good innings to end the season. New recruit Ed (Theroux) Worby was in at 3 and played some beautiful shots, un till he was ran out after slipping on a wet wicket. That brought Bear in at 4 with Asps needing 140 still to win the match. After getting himself in & clearly starting to see the ball like a balloon, bear started crunching shots all over the wicket, and was soon at his 50. Luke at the other end was going along nicely, not giving his wicket away and supporting Bear. With Some lovely shots and quality running between the wickets, Asps won the match with 5overs to go. Bear ended on 90* from 81 balls, and Luke 45* off 101 balls. A great partnership to see the Asps home after a very successful Sunday Season. Won-10, Drawn-4, Lost-5. Big thanks to Albon for sorting out some good Sunday fixtures as well.
