The ACG welcomed last years Div 1 champions Matching Green. Skipper Clifton lost the toss and the Asps were inserted into bat. Jabar and Clifton were 1 & 2. MG's opener bowled a couple of Jaffas first up. Jabar then climbed into 2 short wide ones for 4 through point, followed by a hook for 4. A good start from Jabar. Clifton was settling in at one end & Jabar continued the clean hitting at the other. Jabar smashed two more fours before cutting one to point who took a good catch. Ward was next in at 3. It didn't take him long before he found the boundary second ball. Clifton was finding the quick singles and Ward hitting four 4's on his way to 24 before getting bowled. R. Fitz was next in. Clifton was next to go soon after for 17 adjudged LBW. L. Fitz joined his brother but the partnership sadly didn't last long with R. Fitz falling for 6. Moor strode in at 6. Fitz and Moor looked good and the shot of the day came from the bat of Fitzgerald when he came down the wicket a drove a hard 6 straight back over the bowlers head. Moor looked solid and Fitz hit 2 more fours to reach 24 before being Yorked. Baxter came in at 7. Baxter started with a 4 and both batsmen looked to take the attack to the bowlers. Both batsmen hitting 6's in consecutive overs. A decent partnership of 30 was broken when Moor was bowled for 22 by one that stated low. Green joined Baxter and Baxter chanced his arm, driving a couple of fours and Green the other end sweeping a beautiful 4 off the quick bowler. Another decent 30 run partnership ended with Green edging behind for a very well made and patient 10. Baxter hit one more four before hauling out to long off for 31. Pankhurst came in with strange and drove a sumptuous 4 through cover. Strange cut and edged to the keeper for 3 and last man Surrey was out for 0 when trapped LBW. Leaving stranded Pankhurst the other end on 5*. A good team effort from the Asps to reach 172 all out.

A cracking tea was followed the by the sight of L. Fitz steaming down the hill with pace and swing. A early drop behind from an edge luckily didn't cost much when Surrey bowled the opener. Fitz picked his first up when he bowled the remaining opener early. Number 3 fell early to Strange after the first bowling change, ct by R. Fitz. 4 and 5 tried to steady the ship but number 5 was cleaned up by Fitzgerald with a peach of a delivery. With MG 36/5 and struggling the game was turned on its head by a hard hitting number 7 Bat. He hit two early 6's and didn't take his foot off the gas. Even with Pankhurst bowling perfect line and length he was dispatched for 23 in his 2 overs. R. Fitz replaced Pankhurst and bowled with control. Strange was getting some tap from the number 7. Whoever the bowler he would of gone the distance with the form the batsmen was showing. He soon reached 50 and took the game from away from the Asps when adding another quick fire 30. Surrey had him ct on the boundary for 80. A game winning innings. MG nudged the ball around, knocking off the last 20 need in 5/10 overs.

A hard fought game but the Asps were just outclassed by MG's number 7. Played in good spirit and a beer enjoyed by both teams after the game.
