Bishops Stortford III v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 29 May 2004 at 1.30
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost 65 runs

Match report A very much weakened ASP team travelled to Bishop Stortford where the home team won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that was as flat as a pancake and bone dry. Bowling was always going to be difficult for Aspenden and the late arrival of Pinnuck did not help. The Stortford openers helped themselves to early runs before Potter got the first breakthrough bowling Chappell for 34. This though brought in Slack who along with Williams started to increase the tempo, both passed 50 and Williams went on to make a good 107. With the introduction of Pinnuck (not until the 36th over!!!!) did Aspenden start to make any indentation into the Stortford batsmen. Stortford finished on 240-4 which considering we had only 9 1/2 fielders for much of the game was not a bad effort.

Aspendens reply got of to a brisk start due to some poor bowling but the introduction of Mills 10 overs for 17 runs always meant Aspenden were behind the required run rate. Hassleden made a great comeback from a years absence with 52 and Yates in only his 3rd game for Aspenden finished on 80 not out, 41 runs came from the last 8 overs for a respectable 175-5 ensuring that we achieved 4 batting points.
