Hockerill I v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 112 runs

Match report Asps first league game of 2017 was Hockerill away. ASPCC were elected to bat first & it was looking bad from the get go. Clifton ct behind for 4, Ward ct for 0, R fitz for 4, L Fitz for 6 & Moor for 5 all fell early on. Jabar at the other end was looking for a partner to stay with him and found that in Groom who batted for 45 mins for his 5. Jabar was looking on form from the start, playing some beautiful cut and pull shots on a bouncy Hockerill wicket. The best shot came Jabar pulled a huge 6 into the car park, smashing into a van window! Jabar had bought up his 50 and flying through the gears. Groom was judged LBW and Green was next in. He played a couple of nice drives and stuck with the aggressive Jabar. Jabar was rocketing along and was soon joined by the injured Bear, after Green was bowled for a well made 8. Strange, injured, went full T20 mode from the start of his innings. Some cracking clips through midwicket was followed up by some lovely cut shots & drives. Jabar bought up his first ton of the season in style, and Strange & Jabar really cut loose in the last couple of overs. Strange ended 33* and Jabar 126* which included 18 fours. A great fightback from the Asps men, clawing the momentum back.

Asps took to the field after tea. The normal opening pair of Fitzgerald and Surrey opened up and opened up the Hockeril batting order early on. Surrey striking first, followed up by 2 in 2 for L.Fitzgerald. The second one swinging so much the number 4 left it and then spent a minute trying to figure out how he'd been bowled. A beauty from Fitz. With Hockerill struggling, Aspenden pushed for the next and they were rewarded when Curtis ct one behind off Surrey and Fitz getting his third in his last over. Surrey 2-21 & Fitz 3-28 both bowled brilliantly throughout. It was left to the spinners to take the Asps home. Strange picked one up in his first over and R. Fitz gave the batsmen nothing to hit. Fitz got the solid looking number 6 and after some resistance and good shots from the Hockerill tail, Strange wrapped it up in quick succession, picking the final 3 wickets up. Last of them being a hit wicket. Asps winning by 112 runs after a fantastic effort in the field and with the ball.

Special mention to Akbar's brilliant ton & Bear continously picking up wickets.
