Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v North Weald on Sat 22 Apr 2017 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won

Match report The ACG was rocking once again with ASPCC playing their first home game of the 2017 season. North Weald were the visitors and it was the Away side who batted first.

Surrey and L. Fitzgerald were Asps opening bowling duo. With Fitz bowling with pace and precision and Surrey swinging it into the right handed openers, it was a tough few overs for the batsmen until they found some rhythm and attacked Surrey. Surrey was soon on top though l when he bowled the opener, top of off, swinging back in. Fitzy was unlucky not to have one when Ward couldn't quite grasp a low diving one hander off an edge. Sadly Fitzgerald came off injured after bowling 5 overs & unable to play any more part in the game. Aspenden's 10 men dug in & debutant Lankester picked up an edge, that was plucked by Sapsford at slip, bagging Lankester a wicket in his first over. Surrey was replaced by R. Fitzgerald, great to see Reecey back playing. R. Fitz was soon into his rhythm, with both batsmen struggling against Fitz, it wasn't long before he spun one through the gate of the number 3. Lankester was replaced by Devonshire after Lankester picked up his second of the game. with Fitz bowling well the other end, both were quickly rewarded with wickets each. Fitz with another bowled and Devonshire the same. Fitz bowled economically through his 10 overs leaving him with solid figures of 2-37. Devonshire snared a second in his spell of 2-41 off 8. Sapsford replaced Fitzy and Surrey returned for a spell down the hill. With NW's remaining opener holding the innings together with a good 50, he soon decided Sapsford was his target. After 4 big overs, Surrey bowled tightly to put a stop to the boundaries. Sapsford was rewarded for his work, after NW's opener soon smashed his was to 100, with a wicket giving him 1-35. Surrey produced some quality death bowling to hault the runs and give him 1-30 off 10 with 3 maidens. NW scoring a challenging 188.

A cracking tea from Suzie was followed by the familiar pairing of Clifton and Jabar bounding to the crease. Clifton looked like he'd picked his bat up from last weeks 100 at Stevenage and was carrying on at Aspenden. Clifton's first ball faced was launched over square leg for 6..... leaving the crowd stunned, players in shock & children crying... With the crowd still getting to grips with what had just happened, Clifton then drove a beautiful 4, a statement of intent from the skipper. Jabar, even with a broken bat, looked class from the start. Both batsmen were in and looking good. NW's first change of bowling didn't go to well, both Clifton, soon followed by Jabar brought up 50's in the same over. Unfortunately Jabar was bowled just after for 52, including a huge pavilion clearing 6. A great start for the Vice Skipper. Big hitting Ward joined Clifton and faced a good 3 or 4 balls before tucking into the spinners. Ward was quickly in full flow, and NW had no answers, Ward launched 2 sixes in an over to go with the 4 fours in the previous couple of overs. Clifton was having some fun of his own and found the boundary through his entire innings. Ward was the 3rd man to 50 in the innings and soon after finished the game off leaving him 56* and Clifton 78*. Top start for the Asps and good atart back down the green.

Special mention for the top 3 all scoring 50's.
