Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Takeley I on Sat 29 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 5 wickets

Match report On a cloudy day at Aspenden, ASPCC clinched the HECC Sport Division 2 title with a 5 wicket win against Takeley. Captain Clifton won the toss and inserted Takeley on a wet pitch after a deluge through the week. Ben Surrey and Lewis Fitzgerald opened the bowling and Fitzgerald removed the dangerous Brown caught behind by Clark Baxter, and followed it up by having Osbourne caught at cover. Matt Leaver was next into the attack, but couldn't find any rhythm, and went for 29 off his 3 overs, prompting a double change with the spin duo of Luke Humphrey and Michael Strange bought into the attack. This immediately paid dividends as Humphrey removed the dangerous Thake courtesy of a stunning one handed catch at gully by Strange, who himself removed T.Brown, before Humphrey produced a treble wicket maiden to leave Takeley in the mire at 98-8. Strange dismissed M.Brown and after a few lusty blows from Fitten, Humphrey completed his 5 wicket haul with Clifton snaring a catch on the boundary. ASP knew their destiny was in their own hands now, but as is sometimes the way with small targets, things didn't quite go to plan, as Clifton registered his first duck of the season, trapped LBW by Gunn. Kallum Ward was next in and he only made 7 before being bowled, and Baxter slapped a half volley straight to mid off, and ASP were 32-3. Luckily Akbar Jabar was standing tall at the other end, and when Rob Devonshire skied a shot to mid off, ASP were 54-4, with Jabar having 41 of them!! Humphrey was the next man in and he and Jabar put on a partnership of 40 to leave ASP within touching distance of the title, however Humphrey was dismissed and this bought ASPS stalwart Groom to the crease, and he and Jabar led us to victory with Jabar finishing on 79*. So ASP are promoted to Divison 1 for the first time in their history, with Akbar Jabar scoring 748 runs at an average of 68, 1 x 100, 5 x 50's, Luke Clifton with 520 runs at 37.14, 4 x 50's, and Clark Baxter with 285 runs at 40.71, 2 x 50's, and the bowling was led by Michael Strange with 40 wickets at 9.95, Ben Surrey with 17 wickets at 22.47, and Lewis Fitzgerald with 15 at 23.87
