Woodford Wells IV v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 03 May 2014 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 18 runs

Match report Woodford Wells was first up for the Asps in the 2014 league. Clifton won the toss and elected to bat. With a big score in mind Clifton & Jabar strolled to the middle. Both openers started well with Jabar hitting a couple of lovely looking shots through cover and mid wicket. Clifton looked solid but unfortunately could only manage 10 before being Caught. New vice skipper Humphrey was next in at 3. Jabar was carrying on his good start with some more top shots including a pull shot through mid wicket that went like a bullet. Humphrey was now settled and looking good, both batsmen now in Jabar reached his 50 and Humphrey soon followed in the same over. Humphrey added 1 more before being bowled for a well made 51. With Asps looking like setting a good total, Edwards came in at 4 but was Caught for 5. Leaver joined the dangerous Jabar who was racing to three figures. Leaver took a few overs to get a look at the pitch before finding the gaps well to start scoring quickly. Jabar brought up his 100 with 10 overs still to go and nearly 200 on the board. Unluckily Jabar was Caught for 106, a fantastic innings and great way to start the season. Groom was next in at 6 and he and Leaver found the boundary with regularity and managed to score at 8 an over for the last 8 overs to take Asps to 264-4. A very competitive total.

After tea Edwards took the new ball, and beautifully bowled WW opener first ball of the innings, leg stump. The best possible start for Asps. Leaver steamed in from the other end and bowled tightly in his first couple of overs. Edwards then picked up another leaving WW in trouble. WW big number 4 came in and decided attack was the best form of defence and proceeded to hit Leaver and Edwards to all parts, anything slightly stray was dispatched to the boundary. Strange was brought into he attack, replacing the unlucky Leaver after 4overs. Strange picked one up but WW number 4 was still clubbing it to all parts. Albon took over from Edwards and was also rewarded with a wicket. Strange then managed to get the in batsmen Caught by Clifton on the boundary. A scalp that put the game back into the Asps hands. Albon was replaced by Jabar after a good spell of 7-1-43-1. Jabar's day got better when he picked up a wicket with his first ball, bowling him top of middle stump. Strange then finished a good spell of 10-0-51-2. With WW needing 100 and four wickets remaining, the game was set up for a good finish. D. Smasher for WW started to make use of the smaller boundaries, hitting some 6's. Smasher and the other bat were going along nicely until Jabar broke the partnership. He then picked up another for himself, and Humphrey a run out. Leaver was left to pick up the last man giving him 1-54. Jabar finished with 3-43. A great team performance and signs of great things to come from the Asps.
