South Loughton v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 17 runs

Match report Asps jump out of the bottom 3 and climb to 6th in the HECL div 2 with a massive victory over already promoted South Loughton. Skipper Clifton lost the toss and the Asps were put into bat. They got off to a steady start with Clifton looking solid as ever and Jabar scoring with ease at the other end. Jabar's innings came to an end in the 14th over nicking one to the keeper for 33. Colin Edwards recent form with the willow started to show once again scoring runs all around the ground, including a superb cover drive for four before forcing a great catch at 1st slip off the bowling of Williamson to bring his innings to a close (18). Strange, back in the league side after recovering from a hamstring injury, was soon caught on 9 - again off a delivery from Williamson which to be honest Strange could have hit anywhere. With Clifton still standing strong, Potter (48) soon started to find the boundaries and found them regularly. Rotating the strike was key to getting Asps up to a respectable total and they built a 72 run partnership. Clifton finally paid the price when the death rattle came playing round a straight one from the erratic left armer Tredgold, ending on 54. Devonshire(8*) came to the crease and was soon joined by Baxter(5*) when Potter was caught in the deep. Tredgold picking up his second wicket. Asps 196/5 of 45

All to do with the ball, Edwards and Nash both started strong with Edwards 1st to strike with the score only on 6 - Tredgold pulling a short one straight up for Jabar to get comfortably underneath. Only 6 more runs were added when the next wicket fall - Edwards producing an absolute 'jaffer' to remove Hossain for 5. A strong middle order partnership of 70 was eventually disrupted by Strange when the no 4 - Stokes lofted the ball up and over Edwards' shoulder but he took the catch easily.
Loughton opener Baker (56) was still there with Rehman (33) riding his luck as catches didn't quite go to hand. Rehman took a liking to Sapsfords bowling hitting him for a few straight 6's. Sappo finishing without a wicket in his 9 overs for a not too expensive 45. Runs were still coming until Baker spooned one straight up in the air from Potters bowling with Nash moving back to take the catch. Loughton, now needing 60 from the last 10 overs, looked in the driving seat, but some comical running between the wickets made for an easy run out for Jabar in Potters second spell.
Strange bowled maiden after maiden, finishing with figures of 10,5,21,1.
With the result on a knife-edge, Edwards came back strong and combined with Potter cleared up the tail with Loughton finishing 17 short. Potter picking up 4 for 18 off 5 overs, Edwards 5 for 42 off 10. MOM - could be shared between 4 players (clifton, edwards, strange) but Mark Potter stood out with bat and ball. Overall a very good game played in the right spirit and has one of the best 'snatching victory from the jaws of defeat' games I've been played in. UP THE ASPS.
