Woodford Wells IV v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost by 5 wickets

Match report The first league game of the season was marred by a 2 hour journey to Woodford Wells due to the M25 being shut, which encouraged Derek to unleash both barrels of the f-gun on Bert for 'not being able to organise anything'. Forfeiting the toss ASPS were inserted and had to face the 'terrifying' sight of a ginger South African opening the bowling, and after much huffing and puffing and working the umpire over he was awarded an awful LBW decision, soon after Groomy got a straight one and with Potter playing on, ASPS found themselves in a spot of bother, enter Bumphries and the Brigadier, with the former looking in great nick and the latter looking for a red inker. Bumphries reached his fifty and soon departed leaving the Brigadier to shepherd the rest of the batsmen, with Bert being dropped at cover and then deciding to run, slipped over, and was run out. Fred hit a couple of lusty blows even having the audacity to hit Big Ted for a boundary, but 161 was at least 50 short on a good pitch and a fast outfield. After some chicken and Danish pastries for tea, WW started their reply and were gifted at least one four ball an over, until Fred tempted the opener into skying one to Potter. Zorbo was bowling with real pace but when he dropped short the number 3 plonked him for a couple of sixes. AT and his lucky black jumper was bought on and immediately bowled the opener with a jaffa, which bought in a chirpy wee fellow who was dishing it out in the field, but we unfortunately didn't have chance to hand it back as he edged his second ball straight to Bear at slip. Unfortunately the guy at the other end was playing sweetly and dispatched anything loose, and although AT picked up another wicket, we couldn't dislodge the big guy, even though had 3 excellent shouts for LBW turned down by Big Ted. Sappo finally worked his magic with the long hop to dismiss the big guy but a young whippersnapper came out and played some lovely shots to ease WW to victory. A few positives were taken from the game, Bumphries' batting and AT's bowling, and the fact it only took 35 minutes to get home.....
