Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Hatfield Heath on Sat 30 Jun 2012 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 9 wickets

Match report ASPS marked the middle of a stop-start season with a fantastic performance on the green. Hatfield Heath lost the toss and Luke chose to bowl first. Once again Edwards and M. Nash opened the bowling. Edwards, after bowling a couple of loose beamers, got into his stride and started zipping the ball through with some inswing. Nash bowled steadily, and not for the first time this season, was giving the batsmen absolutely nothing to hit. Some good fielding saw Sapsford hang on to a catch at point off Edwards bowling, rewarding him for some good lines. Nash, wasn't as fortunate and couldn't pick up a wicket leaving him 9-2-16-0, another very economical spell. Edwards finished his spell 10-0-40-1, a decent spell, and perhaps unlucky to only pick up 1 wicket. With HH 65-1 off 20, The carnage began, when Albon was thrown the ball. He immediately picked up a wicket when the HH big hitter was Ct behind by Baxter off a thick edge. And it wasn't long before Albon had other batsmen worried. He picked up his second with a good catch from Clifton at mid wicket. Asps 'new' bowler Sapsford came on and rolled back the years steaming down the hill. Albon was continuing to destroy HH's innings and got himself number 3 when R. Devonshire took a solid catch at deep square leg. The Asps onslaught was well underway when Sapsford got the only batsmen in the middle order who looked like threatening the bowling attack, out Ct behind by good low catch from Baxter. Albon was soon on a 5 for, and was just getting out the batsmen for fun. With HH 115-8 after being 65-1, Albon took two more wickets finishing with 9.2-2-31-8. The best bowling ever for ASPCC, an incredible achievement by Albon which won't be forgotten in a hurry. Sapsford bowled well and ended with 9-1-28-1. HH ending with 121. Albon led the team off at the break and well deserved too.

After the break the ever reliable Strange and big hitting Groom walked to the middle to start the run chase. Strange looked in fine touch, middling the ball around the park. Groom hit a couple of decent shots before he was out Ct for 14. Edwards was next in, looking for some time at the crease. Strange continued on his way, hitting some beautiful looking straight drives for four. Edwards was knocking the ball around and picking up easy singles, as well as the occasional textbook shot for a boundary. Strange raced to fifty with Edwards supporting him at the other end. Strange completed the victory, knocking the winning runs. Strange 61* and Edwards 28*. A thoroughly professional outing for the Asps, who were brilliant over every aspect of the game. A special mention to Albon for completing the best spell in ASPCC recent history. Congratulations.
