Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost 4 Wickets

Match report Aspenden welcomed Asvion old and new to The ACG for the annual tour cup game.

A beer fuelled T20 the previous evening had shown promise for a good game on Friday. The T20 had Wickets, runs, switch hits, a lot of Desperados & many toilet breaks... The evening then consisted of 10 Asps players and 3 Asvion players playing the Dutch dice game... 2 Sambucca bottles later, and a quick run for more by Suzie, The Asps spearhead bowler Lew Fitz had slipped into a bad place, mainly involving a lot of sick and a call to the Mrs to pick him up.. Asps one down... Keeper and one of the inform Asps batsmen this year Baxter had thrown up down himself, his car and anything else in a 2 meter radius. 2 down.. Even the hardcore veteran Sapsford had collapsed into a state of semi consciousness. 3 down... Pankhurst was wearing stolen hockey trousers along with a stolen hockey see through vest from 4pm, 4 down.. with the Asvion boys tucked up in bed nice and early, the younger members of the Asps team lead by Reecey and Kal stayed up late through the night.

Match day...

12pm. Tank hanging, Clifton bad, Kal & Reece surprisingly decent, Lew hanging, Baxter half dead. It looked bad.

The Asvion team rolled up bright eyed and bushy tailed. The toss saw Aspenden out into bat. Clifton was joined by a spritely Devonshire. Some top bowling from Kreber & M.V Collenburg saw the Asps struggle to hit runs. The normal free flowing Devonshire was defensive and watchful with Clifton playing himself. Gokke delivered the first blow when his pace beat Clifton and he was bowled for 6. Ward joined Devonshire who had now found the midwicket boundary followed by a top drive back down the ground. Ward started quickly, hitting M.V. Collenburg for a nice 4. Asvion switching between M.V. Collenburg and Gokke down the hill, was working well, both men bowling tightly, giving nothing away. Devonshire moved to a well hit 23 before Kreber had him caught from a good catchy by Goei. The fresh faced and up for it Groom joined Ward. Groom was looking good, picking balls up off middle and clipping some lovely boundaries through midwicket and fine leg. Ward hauled out to Gokke off Stouthandel. Caught by Gokke. Feeling sorry himself, Baxter joined Groom. Baxter struggled to pick the middle ball after seeing 3 for most the innings... Groom was the mainstay of the Asps inning and batted through. With 10 overs to go and Asps 120, Baxter freed his arms, hitting 3 straight 6's and Groom smashing B.V Collenburg through midwicket. Baxter had smashed his way to 47 quickly but was bowled by Stouthandel. Groom was now in with King. King clubbed a couple of brutal 4's on his way to 16 before Stouthandel got his 3rd. Groom carried his bat for an impressive and first tour 50, finishing on 69* which included thirteen 4's. Asps ending on a par score off 194.

A fantastic tea with thanks to Mark & Sarah was followed by the Asvion chase. The hard hitting opening pair of Wolfe and Stouthandel came out first. With Asps needing early wickets Surrey delivered with the LBW of Wolfe. A struggling L. Fitz was bowling well and picked up the wicket of Stouthandel. It was looking good for the Asps. But It wasn't to last, when the new men M.V Collenburg and Kreber came in they looked solid from the start. Kreber was the man going for it and M.V Collenburg passed him the strike whilst scoring some nice boundaries himself. Collenburg was out for a well made 32 when new bowler Pankhurst had him caught. Zegers came in and supported Kreber who was taking the match away from Aspenden now. Zegers fell for 14 when bowled by K. Ward. Pankhurst was replaced by P. Ward who bowled 2 overs until the alcohol took its toll and he took himself off for King. B.V Collenburg hit a good 10 when King had him trapped LBW. Kreber had smacked 2 quick 6's to get to 50. A few more big hits took him to 70 before King had him out. Asps had a glimmer on hope. Ingelse had other ideas and the with Desperados flowing through his veins, he smashed 26 in 13 balls to win Asvion the cup back for the first time in a few years. A great win for the Asvion men, and taking nothing away from Asvion, the Asps boys trudged off with headaches, knowing they had partly defeating themselves by drinking their body weight in beer, Sambucca and desparados the night before. Taking the cup wins to just 1 game in it again in favour of Aspenden.

Aspenden MOTM given to Krebers match winning 70.
Asvions MOTM given to Baxter for a quick fire 47 and just being able to hold a bat.

Followed beer Olympics won by a quality slip and slide penalty by Ben against the 'apparent' goalie Ricky.

A fun night enjoyed by some more than others... mainly talking about the method of shot taking for the never ending fines!

Saturday was once again a hungover mess of a game but the evening saw Bert Devonshires stag do! Great night had by all and a brilliant tour.

Look forward to seeing you next year and bringing the cup home!
