Match report Match Report Saturday 1st July

Bishop Stortford Away

ASPCC travelled the short distance to Stortford, looking to find their winning form again. Stand in skipper Jabar lead the Asps men out to field first.
Surrey and Fitzgerald opened up as usual. Fitzgerald was express pace and Surrey had the ball hooping round the place. Fitzgerald was again unlucky, finding the edges and splice of the bat many times without reward. Surrey bagged a well deserved beauty with a nick off behind to Baxter. Devonshire was handed the responsibility after Fitzgeralds 6 overs. Surrey bowled well, a good sign for the coming weeks. He bowled a cracking spell of 10-3-20-1. Devonshire was next in the hunt when he picked up a wicket. Strange replaced Surrey and BS remaining opener was up for the challenge, taking 14 off Strange's first over. Devonshire bowled a tidy 1 for 27. It was time for the man of the moment John Albon to step up... whilst Albon was finding his range, Strange picked one when the BS lefty walked past one and Baxter did the rest. After staring down the barrel of 280 plus, Albon picked up 2 quick big wickets, dragging Asps back into the game. BS's numbers 4,5,6,7,8 made up Albon's 5 first five. Tearing the middle order apart. Including 2 bowled's & 3 catches. Fitz returned to get a deserved wicket and deservedly Albon picked up the last wicket to give him figures of 9.4-0-52-6. BS had been well and truly BC'd...

A good tea was followed by Jabar opening up with Strange, who was rolling back the years and ready for the challenge. Asps started well with 26 coming in the first 3 overs. Strange cutting well and Jabar pulling anything short. Jabar took the game to the BS bowlers and Strange passed him the strike nicely. It wasn't long before they had bought up the 50 partnership off 10 overs. Jabar had another 50 under his belt, which had two huge 6's over midwicket. The partnership reached 89 before Strange miscued a flick to square leg for a well made 24. Ward was next in and after a a quick 9 he was run out. R. Fitz sadly was in and out quickly for 0. Baxter came in at 5 and Jabar was just needing someone to hold up and end. Baxter obliged and passed the strike to Jabar who was timing the pants off of everything. Baxter chipped in with 2 fours and the partnership raced to 50. With it looking like Asps were controlling procedures, Baxter smashed one straight to the midwicket for 15. Soon followed by Moor who was also caught at midwicket for 6. The inform Groom was the man to join Jabar who had just reached a fourth hundred of the season. Phenomenal statistics from the Asps batsmen. Groom was the man for the occasion, bringing calm to the crease and leaving Jabar on strike. Jabar hit another 25 before Groom finished the game off with a clip through square leg for 4, leaving him 8*. Jabar carried his bat for a stunning 125* which had 15 fours and 2 sixes. ASPCC back on track with a solid win.

Special mention to Albon's 6 Wickets and Jabar 125*. Plus all the fielding which was high class.
