Great Canfield v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI on Sun 14 May 2017 at 2.00pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won By 8 Wickets

Match report Aspenden travelled to Great Canfield on hot sunny day. Albon won the toss and ASPCC asked GC to set a target. That target looked as if it was going to be on the large side when the hard hitting openers came to the crease and smashed some quick runs off Ward & Rushworths bowling. Both bowlers were hitting the right areas and did cause some problems with the extra bounce the GC surface gave. The GC opening pair had soon put on 50 but Rushworth picked up both of the opening batsmen in one over. First ct by Strange at long off and the second by Moor at point. Both good catches. Ward picked up a deserved wicket with a fine piece of swing bowling, nipping away and being edged to Strange at slip for his second catch of the day. Albon replaced Rushworth and young Gurney for Ward. Both bowlers bowled tightly from the start. Gurney impressing with good line and length. Albon soon bagged a ct and bowled and Gurney grabbed one for himself. GC were under pressure now and after a partnership that saw both batsmen knocking it around with the occasional big hit, Albon struck to end it. Gurney got his second and both bowlers ended with 2 wickets a piece. It was down to Baxter and Khan to finish it off. Both getting a wicket each.

Tea was followed by Moor & Green striding to the crease. Moor looked solid from his first ball. Green crunched 2 great pull shots for 4, before being bowled by the very accurate opening bowler for 10, another promising start from Green. Khan joined Moor and was aggressive from the get go. Moor smoked a couple of boundaries through cover to get himself going. Khan lunged down the pitch and top edged one straight back to the bowler for a simple catch. Baxter was next in and ASPCC had a bit of a storm to weather at 20-2. Baxter played himself in nicely and both run the singles well, rotating the strike nicely. GC made a bowling change and Baxter climbed into his over smashing three 4's from bad balls. Moor was playing shots all round the wicket including several beautiful hook and pull shots from around his face. With both batsmen playing well and waiting to punish the bad balls, things were looking good for the Asps. Drinks came and soon after Moor reached a well executed 50. Baxter then took a liking to the next bowler on, slapping him for consecutive 4's early in. Baxter had his foot on the excellerator and Moor was also starting to take some risks. A cracking cut shot from Moor followed by one from baxter saw Asps only 4 away from there target in the quick time of just 20 overs. It was Baxter who slapped the winning runs over midwicket to bring up his 50 and the winning runs. Moor ending 61* and Baxter 50* a top partnership of 120.

Good fun game, with everyone involved. Special mention to Gurneys bowling & Moor & Baxters partnership. Also to the umpire who swapped with the square leg umpire so he could see how much Maz turns it (too much)!
