Hatfield Heath v Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 2 wickets

Match report After a couple of years Hatfield Heath & ASPCC we’re back facing eachother in the league again, and it produced a nail biter of a game.

Aspenden were first to field and after watching the big hitting HH opener flay several boundaries in Surrey’s & Fitzgerald’s opening 7/8 overs, it looked like HH would be posting a big score. It was soon after that Surrey struck and Asps had their breakthrough. Surrey then had Number 3 edged behind to Baxter who took a decent catch to remove him. Surrey was almost rewarded with another but a sharp chance was put down at slip. Fitzgerald was having a good battle with HH remaining opener and main run scorer. He was playing and missing then hitting good balls for 4. Strange replaced Fitzgerald, he immediately found some turn and bounce, not long after he removed the opener after Moor took a brilliant catch at long off. Sapsford was now bowling with Strange and both had the batsmen pinned down, bowling dot after dot, and with a good field setting, made it hard to find any boundaries. Sapsford was rewarded for his good bowling with a wicket. Strange was well into his work now, picking up two in two balls. He then skittled another two batsmen to leave him with 5 for 27 off 10. A quality display of bowling. It was down to Humphreys & Sapsford to finish off innings. Both bowlers bowling tightly, giving nothing away and both picking up another wicket to finish HH off for 142.

Asps reply started well with Jabar hitting a beautiful 4 through point and Clifton the same. An aggressive looking Clifton hauled out to Mid-off after miscuing a drive and Jabar was out the over after caught behind after trying to cut one. Asps looking in trouble at 15-2. Humphreys & last week’s Ton man Moor steadied the ship, putting on a good 30 partnership until Moor was bowled for 13. Baxter joined Humphrey and both batsmen looked solid. Humphrey playing some quality delicate shots around the wicket whilst Baxter looked to try punish the bad balls, of which there was not too many. After taking the score up to 75-3, Humphrey was bowled for 31 after trying to cut one that just tailed back and took middle. Fitzgerald joined Baxter and played a hard hitting innings of 15, including a big six over midwicket. He was then ajudged LBW & Devonshire was next in. Drinks came and after Baxter hit two more fours before being bowled for 33. With the score at 110-6 the nerves were well and truly jangling when Devonshire was yorked for 4. Groom & Sapsford batted well to keep everything out and hit the singles but Groom pushed forward and was stumped for 4. Strange was next in and it wasn’t long before his class prevailed and he smashed two 4’s through midwicket to bring home the victory for the ASPS. Quality from the Bear with ball and bat.
