Match report The less said about this dismal display by Aspenden against the team ninth in the division at the start of the day the better.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a beautifully sunny afternoon. They started well but were soon in trouble losing wickets at regular intervals. The home side bowled tightly but some big hits towards the end of the innings and an annoying last wicket partnership allowed Hockerill to finish on a rather flattering 164.

In reply Aspenden were never really in it as none of their batsmen were prepared to occupy the crease as required. Useful efforts from Booth,Groom and Thompson were not enough as they and others gave their wickets away against some determined but basically mediocre bowling. Aspenden were well short at the end as they were bowled out for 132 and Hockerill wrapped up a thoroughly deserved win.

Champagne moment: A long champagne moment this week which lasted about five and a half hours - the attitude of the Hockerill team. Undaunted by previous results, effort for each other throughout the game, no prima donnas bothered about personal performances, they played as a team and ultimately won as a team.
