Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v President's XI on Sun 15 Jul 2012 at 2pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 6 wickets

Match report The sun shone on Aspenden for the Presidents match at the green. Gordon and his 'Nostalgia 11' batted first as always. A worrying sight for the ASPS as Gordon and Spencer walked to the middle in a formidable looking opening pair. Ward and Albon opened the attack for Asps and after 6 overs Presidents 11 were 2-0, Albon bowling maidens and Ward following suit. Neither could quite get the breakthrough though, with Gordon looking as solid as ever. Spence tried to open his arms up but some good bowling kept the run rate below 1. Albon finished his first spell, to be replaced by Pankhurst. Ward was rewarded in his final over when Gordon hit the ball straight to Sapsford at cover for a good catch. With the Presidents on 27-1 off 18 overs, Strange was up at three, looking to score some quick runs. Strange hit 2 sixes off the bowling of Surrey down the hill. Surrey was to get revenge in the next over when Strange went for another big shot and was stumped 'elegantly' by N. Curtis. The Crab was next in with his foam bat. Pankhurst picked up a second when he got Spencer out. Surrey finished his spell with figures off 6-1-38-1 and was replaced by Baxter. Scott Nash was in the middle with the Crab now, and was finding the middle of the bat regularly, putting Baxter back over his head a couple of times. Pankhurst carried on his good form from the last match with figures of 7-1-17-2. Sapsford was replacing Pankhurst and was spinning the ball square, causing some problems for Crabby, who was making the most of being dropped three times. Nash carried on scoring quickly and was soon at a well played 50. Baxter ended with 0-35 off just four. Clifton was to bowl the last 2 overs down the hill. Sapsford then picked up a well deserved wicket as did Clifton. with the tail in, Clifton struck again to get Si Lindsay in his first match since his horrific injury. Some good bowling left Clifton with 2-9 off his 2overs and Sapsford 2-30 off 6. Presidents ended their innings on 155. with 130 runs coming in the last 20 overs.

A great tea by Tracey was followed by the Asps run chance. Asps Sunday openers R. Devonshire and Clifton were first in. With the pitch still playing up the faster bowler (by quite a lot) of the Pankhurst family, Stuart, opened the attack down the hill. Strange started up the hill and by all accounts was turning it square. Clifton smacked a couple of boundaries off Bear's first couple of overs and Devonshire finding it harder against Pankhurst, faced Strange and managed to hit a few boundaries, including a big 4 over midwicket. Clifton was finding the gaps and with the slow outfield was finding the ones and twos easy to come by. Scott Nash replaced Strange and was immediately hit back over his head massive six down the ground. Asps raced to 60-0 off the first 15 and going along nicely until Devonshire edged one high off Nash and El Presidente took a good catch to dismiss his son for well played 32. Baxter strolled to the crease at 3, and started nicely picking up the singles and Clifton doing the same. After hitting Nash for a nice four over midwicket, Nash got revenge by catching Baxter for 12 after skying one off Jolly's bowling. Worby joined the settled Clifton and both batsmen looked good. Worby hitting a couple of nice shots until he was also caught for 12. Sapsford walked to the middle at 5 and steadied the ship with Clifton. Clifton was soon at his 50 after some lusty blows. A couple of more big hits off Spencer, including a tennis style ace off a beamer for 4. After scoring 67, Clifton was caught behind by Steve Lindsay for his first catch of the day. Some good glove work by the senior Lindsay. Grace came in with Asps needing 6 off the last two overs. After a couple of singles, Grace smashed one to the boundary and won the game for Asps. A great day all round, with some good cricket and good laugh's. Followed by some food and drinks down The Fox. A big thanks to Bert, Bear and anyone else who managed to actually get a game on with all this rain. Great job guys. And well done Simon Lindsay for managing to go through a whole sporting match without breaking or dislocating any bones.
