Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v Abridge on Sun 05 Aug 2012 at 2pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost by 2 wickets

Match report A day of ups, downs and hangovers... Asps lost the toss on a slightly damp wicket and were elected to bat by visitors Abridge. Devonshire and Pankhurst were to open the batting. Unfortunately Devonshire fell after trying to dispatch the Abridge slow bowler for 7. Sapsford joined Pankhurst in the middle. Some good bowling restricted ASPS to minimal runs. Pankhurst played a high cover drive before being bowled off a quick full ball. King was next in at 4, and he looked determined to keep his wicket in tact. Sapsford started hitting the ball nicely, but finding the same fielder on atleast 5 occasions. King was still blocking it out and picking up the single when possible. Sapsford then fell after a nice looking 20. Worby was next in and didn't fair much better when he played on for a duck. Green came in and leathered the ball all over the place for a couple of overs, including two lovely shots straight back down the ground. Like all batsmen before Green was bowled and Albon came in at 7. King still going nicely, slapped the ball to midwicket for a nice four, before also being bowled for a good 24. Baxter joined Albon with Asps 90-6 off 30. Baxter found the boundaries early on an took the attack to the Abridge bowlers. Albon just trying to rotate the strike was doing a good job at the other end. Baxter Hit a couple of nice shots down the ground. Albon was doing well, Abridge bought there quicker bowler back on and he did the trick for Albon, bowling him. End of a good partnership of around 50 to push the ASPS up. With a couple of overs to go, Baxter dispatched a couple of balls before he was also bowled for a well made 44. Grace and Strange were in for last over where Grace scored a lovely four down square leg. ASPS ending on 148-8.

With thanks to Albon for doing a tea so late on, Surrey and Albon opened the bowling for the ASPS. After Surrey's first ball was hacked away for four, he struck in the same over to give ASPS a great start. Albon was tossing it up at the other end, giving the Abridge batsmen nothing. Surrey then picked up a wicket in his second over, he then bowled a jaffer in his third over to get his tally to 3 so quickly. Baxter and Pankhurst took over form Albon and Surrey after 5 good overs each. Pankhurst picked up a LBW early on and Baxter got one to sneak through. With ASPS looking like they could win, Abridge's number 3 was playing a great knock. Looking solid and putting anything bad away. Baxter had no more luck bowling his 8 for 1-37. Pankhurst also couldn't get a breakthrough and finished 1-32. Surrey came back on down the hil and again got a wicket in his first come back over. Grave was having a go up the hill and got rewarded in his second over with a wicket. Grace then got another, but it was all to late as Abridge crossed the line with 2 wickets to spare. A great knock by their skipper was the only thing stopping ASPS from another victory.
