Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Sunday XI v Aston on Sun 01 Jul 2012 at 2pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 10 wickets

Match report Aston were down the green for the first time on Sunday after two good games between the sides last season. Everyone was hoping for more of the same. Albon elected to field when the Aston skipper lost the toss. Ward was to bowl down the hill and started well, bowling a maiden first up. With no Surrey in the team, the returning Pankhurst took the new cherry up the hill, hoping to open his account in July, in only his 3rd match of the season he looked like he had never missed a match. Ward was bowling tightly and the Aston Batsmen were really struggling. Pankhurst was his usual self, bowling great lines. He was rewarded (slightly fortunately) when a ball didn't bounce and trapped the Aston opener in front LBW. Ward bowled 6 overs in his first spell, and only going for 4 runs. Baxter replaced him down the hill, and had a wicket in his first 5 balls when the batsmen went for a big cut and edged it behind for N. Curtis to take a good catch. Baxter was in the action again in Pankhurst's last over when he took a edge at slip, giving Pankhurst amazing figures of 8-5-6-2. Baxter then picked up a second when the Aston batsman played all around one that went through the gate. It wasn't long before he picked up a 3rd in his 3rd over when young I. Curtis (mini-milka) took a good catch at slip. And it was I. Curtis who came onto bowl at the other end. Curtis got the ball to turn and a bit of bounce but couldn't pick up a wicket of his own. Baxter was on 4 after bowling the remaining opener, Worby then took a great catch at mid off, giving Baxter his first 5 for. A mention to Worby, who fielded brilliantly throughout the whole innings, jumping in front of everything (even if it did mean taking one in the nuts). Curtis was still plugging away at the other end but didn't have any luck. Baxter found himself on a hat trick in his last over when he took 2 in the first 2 balls of the over, fortunately for Albon, Baxter couldn't pick up a 8th and take his record after less than 24 hours. Baxter finished 8-2-8-7, a good spell of bowling to take his first five for, and second best bowling figures for ASPCC. Grace finished it off in his first over getting the man bowled.

The Run chase was to start with Clifton and R. Devonshire. After being dropped twice in the first two overs, Devonshire decided that there was only one way to go and that was big. Hitting a big 6 down the ground, both Devonshire and Clifton found the boundary with ease. It wasn't long before the 50 was up and after Devonshire hit 18 off the 10th over of the innings - the game was won. Devonshire 51* and Clifton 20*. A second very professional performance by ASPCC of the weekend. A special well done to R Devonshire for hitting his 3rd fifty of the season, and Baxter for his first 5 wicket haul.
