Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Braughing on Sat 25 Aug 2012 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Lost by 49 runs

Match report A rainy day at Aspenden saw Braughing rain on Asps promotion charge. Asps won the toss and choose to bowl first. Albon chosen to open up the hill, and first ball the Braughing opener middled it straight back at Albon, who couldn't quite take it & the ball smashed in between two of his fingers. Despite now having a broken finger and split webbing between the finger, Albon managed to carry on, and bowl well for 9 overs. Edwards was getting the ball to jump up off a length and was causing many problems for the batsmen, crashing the ball into the helmet a couple of times. He was rewarded with a plum LBW and a bowled in his last over of his ten. Edwards finished 2-38 off his ten and Albon a respectable 9-0-43-0, unfortunate not to pick up a wicket. Strange replaced Albon up the hill and got some immediate turn. Sapsford was back, and given the ball down the hill, rolling back the years and bending the back, Sapsford impressed with some sharp accurate bowling. Strange at the other end was unlucky not to have picked up 1 if not two LBW's. He was rewarded with a wicket a bit later on. Sapsford was having the better of it, and apart from the occasional bad ball he bowled very tightly. He picked up three quick wickets to give him 3-52 off 8. Strange swapped ends and came down the hill, And Humphreys came on up the hill. Humphreys got instant success when he bowled he in batsmen through the gate. Humphreys picked up two more wickets in his three overs to end the innings on 181. Strange 7-0-27-1 & Humphreys an impressive 3-1-12-3.

After tea and the odd rain break, Asps went out to bat. Strange and Groom were first up. Strange looked good untill quick bowler Forbes got one to leap up and Strange could do nothing but glove it to slip. Edwards joined Groom and a good partnership started to grow. Groom crashed the ball around the place and Edwards driving down the ground beautifully. It cam to a halt when Groom was Caught for 31 and Edwards also caught soon after for 33. Humphreys didn't last much longer falling for 1, also caught. Devonshire went out to join skipper Clifton who was trying to steady the ship after a middle order collapse. Devonshire smashed a couple of sixes to put him well in the lead for the 6's cup (unless Albon can pull something out the bag next week......) in a quick fire 26 before he was caught off the bowling of Forbes, who was back on for his last two overs. Things went from bad to worse when Clifton was then caught for 15. Baxter and Sapsford were at the crease, With Forbes only having 5 balls of his spell left and taking half of the Asps wicket, Baxter had to see him. It didn't happen, and on his last ball Baxter spooned one up to mid off for his first quacker of the season. Grace joined Sapsford and was soon gone for a third ball 0. Curtis lasted even shorter going second ball. It was left to 'take my strong hand' Albon to come in with one glove and try watch Sapsford blast a quick fifty to win Asps the match... Unfortunately Sapsford was bowled for 1 trying to smash over mid wicket. Asps 132 all out. The less said the better about our two performance's against the Braughing Boys this year.
