Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v High Roding 2nds on Sat 28 Jul 2012 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won by 7 wickets

Match report League cricket was finally back for the Asps boys, as High Roding visited Aspenden. Clifton won the toss and elected to field first. The usual two Matt Nash and Edwards opened the bowling. A good start from HR left them 40-0 off the first 8, until Edwards struck twice in two overs to put Asps in the advantage. Nash was unfortunate to not pick up a wicket or two but he ended with a very economical spell of 6-2-11-0. Strange replaced him up the hill and was bowling beautifully, giving nothing away, and missing the outside edge multiple times. Edwards then grabbed two more in his last 3 overs to give him 10-1-41-4, a great opening burst from Edwards. With spin keeping the run rate down, albon was introduced down the hill and got immediate spin and bounce down the slope. Albon then got in on the action claiming his 28th league wicket of a very short season. Strange eventually got the wicket he deserved in his last over when Clifton took a simple catch at midwicket. Debutant Luke Humphreys replaced Strange (10-2-24-1) with some of his own spin. Albon bagged another before he was taken off an Sapsford put on. Albon picking up 2-42 off his 9. Humphreys bowled well but the HR number 10 was saving their innings and putting everything slightly off target to the boundary. Sapsford then cleaned him up and picked up another to finish of the HR innings. A good effort by Sapsford giving him 2-18. HR ending on 171. Congratulations to Ed Worby who played his first league game for the Asps, and was one of few fielders to look solid in the field.

New opening pair Strange and Nash opened the batting for the Asps. After smashing a four to the boundary, Nash hauled out the very next ball for 8. Edwards looking as determined as ever strolled out at number 3. Strange was playing as elegantly as ever, going through his range of drives, cuts and clips to score runs all over the wicket. Edwards took a while to get off the mark, but it was worth the wait when he hit a booming straight drive for four back over the bowlers head. After that both batsmen never looked back, both looking solid in defence and attack. Strange was soon at another league 50, and still playing brilliantly. Edwards was constructing a nice innings of his own, picking up the easy singles, and hitting the occasional boundary. A few more big shots from Strange was followed by a thin edge behind and a great innings was ended. A lovely 78 for Strange and a hundred partnership for him and Edwards. Humphreys was in at 4 and only lasted a couple of overs before he edged behind for 1. Skipper Clifton cam in to join Edwards. Clifton struck a couple of nice sweep shots to take Asps to a league double victory over HR with 3 overs to spare. Edwards finished on 49* and Clifton 20*. A great league win for the Asps.
