Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Saturday League Team v Stansted Hall 1sts on Sat 19 May 2012 at 1.30pm
Aspenden Standon & Puckeridge Won 53 runs

Match report ASPS first league match of 2012 took them down the green to face Stansted Hall And Elsenham. Two good matches played out between these two teams last year and this year was to be no different. Clifton lost the toss and ASPS were put into bat. R. Devonshire and Groom were first out to the middle. Groom looked in fine touch for someone who hasn't picked up a bit since last season. Devonshire got him self off the mark with a couple of nice shots, but couldn't last much longer when he was bowled by a full ball for 3. Edwards joined Groom who was finding the gaps and timing well. The pair put on a decent partnership after ASPS early loss. Edwards hit a couple of lovely looking shots down the ground but was also bowled by a ball that didn't really bounce. Groom was out soon after when he top edged a ball that he was trying to dispatch a 6, and was caught for 27. Two new batsmen Strange and Clifton were at the crease now and pushing the singles around, keeping the scoreboard ticking. A big partnership was needed if ASPS were going to post a big score and that's exactly what happened. Strange started putting the bowling to the sword and putting the ball to all parts of the ground looking in great form. Clifton worked his way to a important 50 and his second of the year. Strange was bowled trying to push the run rate up, this left Sapsford and Clifton to finish off the innings. Sapsford wasted no time trying to punish the bowlers, hitting them to all parts, including a fantastic 6 over mid wicket. Clifton then chanced his arm, hitting some hefty blows and pushing for every run. Sapsford ended 28* with a great cameo at the end, and Clifton ended with a very well played 69*. Leaving ASPS to defend 234.

After a fantastic tea, a confident Asps team walked out to field. Edwards and Nash took the new ball. Stansted openers looked fairly solid and were going along nicely until Nash struck, taking out one of SH+E's best batsmen. After that the wickets started to fall consistently. Nash picked his second and SH+E's other opener. Taylor replaced Edwards from the top end, a decent spell from Edwards who finished with 0-27 off 7. Taylor was straight away on his line and length, giving the batsmen no room to hit anything at all. Nash ended his spell with great figures of 10-3-16-2. The king of spin then entered the match when Albon started a very impressive spell. The SH+E batsmen were falling further behind the run rate when Albon and Taylor struck. Taylor then managed to pick up his second of the match ending with good figures of 10-2-37-2. The batsmen then started to target Albon, trying to just slap him into the trees every ball, but the consistent wicket taking stalled the innings. He managed to out smart the SH+E skipper when he sent one down with some flight beating the outside edge and Baxter getting his first stumping of the year. On 120-8 S+E batsmen started to hit everything and took a like to the Sapsford double bouncer and hit some big shots. Sapsford got the final laugh picking up the last wicket ending with 1 for 36. Albon was pick of the bowlers picking up 10-1-52-5. A great team performance by the ASPS and a great start the league season.
